63 Years of Tanzania–Sweden Cooperation: Delegation from Embassy of Sweden Visits LHRC to Witness Legal Aid Impact
Today, 24 June 2026, Legal and Human Rights Centre (LHRC) received a delegation from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Sweden and the Embassy of Sweden in Tanzania, who visited the LHRC Legal Aid Centre in Kinondoni to learn more about the activities and services provided to enhance access to justice in Tanzania.
The visit forms part of the commemoration of 63 years of development cooperation between Sweden and Tanzania. For more than six decades, this partnership has contributed significantly to Tanzania’s development in various sectors, including education, health, water and sanitation, and energy.
Welcoming the delegation, LHRC Executive Director, Dr. Anna Henga, highlighted the impact of the more than 25-year partnership between the Government of Sweden and LHRC in promoting and protecting human rights in Tanzania. She also shared key achievements realized through the provision of legal aid services to citizens, as well as ongoing challenges, particularly in land disputes and labour-related matters.
LHRC takes pride in its longstanding partnership with the Government of Sweden, which has supported the implementation of various programmes aimed at strengthening access to justice, good governance, accountability, and equality within society.
The visit reflects the strong trust and partnership between the two parties and recognises LHRC’s contribution to building a society founded on human rights, justice, and sustainable development for all Tanzanians.
